Rain Barrels– Collect Water and Put It to Use!
A rain barrel collects water. Cumberland County Conservation District notes that one inch of rain on a 1000 square foot roof produces over 600 gallons of rain water. By collecting rain a barrel, the water doesn’t end up in the streets, sewers and eventually the waterways.
The collected rainwater can then be used for various outdoor purposes. For example, it can be used to water potted plants or fill pond and water features. You may even save some money on your water bill! Another benefit of catching the water in a rain barrel is that it can prevent erosion by slowing down the flow of rainwater runoff.
